Presence

I'm a gal who likes her sleep. I would much rather stay up late and sleep in the following morning than rise at the crack of dawn, although I often find myself staying UP until daybreak. But there are those rare mornings when I rise out of bed, bright and early, ready to face the day. This morning is one of those mornings.

It's about 8:30 right now and I've been up since 6:30. I've already read my e-mails, checked my Facebook, made myself sausage and eggs, had 3 cups of coffee and have done the dishes. As I look out the window I see a flourish of white blossoms and a sunny, yet hazy sky. The Scientist is sound asleep in the next room and the Park and Ride across the street hasn't yet come to life with the whirling of bus engines.

I cherish mornings like these because it allows me to be present and be in the moment. I still have the whole day ahead of me with plenty to do and plenty to look forward to, but for now I can just BE.

  1. I just wish I could sleep in, but my body reacts to daylight, so no sleep until the sun is down and no sleep after the sun is up.

  2. I love mornings, especially the sense that it's pretty early and a lot has been accomplished.

I hope the rest of your day is lovely!

  3. I am also not a morning person, though I get up a lot earlier on weekends these days than I used to. On those occasions when I do get up early it is amazing how much time is available. But then by 10 p.m. I'm exhausted, so I guess it all evens out.

  4. Every time I get up really early, before everyone else - which is rare - I think, oh! so lovely! I should do this all the time! But the fact is that sleep is so incredibly important to me, and most of the time I'm squeezing out every last minute of sleep time.

  5. I had an early morning get up last Saturday and it is amazing how much you can get done...it really feels like you've made the most of the day! I really should do it more often, but I like my late nighs and lie ins a bit too much lol!

  6. I love sleep, but man, I love it when I have those quietly productive mornings, too...

  7. It's so weird, I love love love being up and out early, but I always stay up so late on my computer that I can never muster the willpower to get up at 6:00. :(

  9. I love this post. I am a night owl to a huge fault and I never fall asleep at night- when I do have rare mornings like you described- I feel so good.
