Favorite #10 - Baby Products

I'm back at the favorites list again! Favorite #10 is brought to you by every single person and their mother recently getting pregnant or having a baby (except my mother - that would just be weird). I absolutely LOVE baby products. Here's a list of my favorite baby products and why I use them.

BABY OIL

I always have several bottles of baby oil around the house and use it for a variety of purposes. I have a bottle in the shower. After I've washed and rinsed, I rub baby oil all over my body. It seals the moisture into my skin and makes it...well, soft as a baby. The one drawback to using it in the shower is that it makes the shower floor ridiculously slippery! I also use it to remove eye makeup. I wear liquid or gel eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara and concealer almost every day and a little dab of oil on a cotton ball removes it in an instant. One more use of baby oil is to clean the greasy hair product I use every day off my hands. I have a variety of hair potions that I use - waxes, pomades, etc. - and no amount of soap gets it off. Rubbing a bit of baby oil on my hands takes it off easily! Plus, I never pay more than $3 a bottle.

BABY BATH

Like baby oil, baby bath is also dirt cheap and I use it every day. Mostly, I use it as my face wash and have been doing so since high school. I have somewhat sensitive skin that's also extremely oily and is prone to breakouts. The baby bath is gentle enough that it doesn't wreak havoc on my skin, but it also cleans it really well without over drying. It's also nice as a gentle shampoo or a body wash, which I'll do sometimes.

LANOLIN

I know what you're thinking...why would I need a product for breastfeeding mothers? My mum was a labor & delivery nurse for years and turned me on to this trick. This lanolin is mostly used to soothe and treat dry, cracked nipples that can result from breastfeeding. But you know what else it's good for? Dry, cracked lips! This stuff is AMAZING for those painfully chapped wintertime lips. I don't use this as often since my mum isn't in L&D anymore, but she still works at a hospital and can snag a few tubes here and there. It's also not that expensive at Target or any other drugstore that carries baby products.

BABY WIPES

Baby wipes are also a great multi-purpose product. I usually have a travel pack in my purse, and when I had a car I kept a couple packs in my glove compartment, too. They're great for a quick freshening on a hot, sweaty day and perfect for a quick face wash when you're camping or someplace where you can't wash your face/body as easily. There are several companies that make natural wipes, and I like the wipes from Seventh Generation.

Lansinoh for lips! I'd never have thought of that! My lips have been super dry lately, and Chapstick just isn't doing the trick. I'll have to try your tip!

I love to use baby lotion...mostly for that heavenly baby smell. My boyfriend uses baby shampoo for his 'hair'. He shaves his head daily and says that using baby shampoo first softens up his head scruff and makes for a close, shiny shave.

you just sold me on the need for baby oil! the last time i used/bought it was for the scavenger hunt last year when i had to make an indoor baby oil slip n' slide. that was.. messy.

Baby wipes, which I always have on hand these days, are also AMAZING stain removers! When I worked at J.Crew we had a tub behind the cash register to remove deodorant, mascara, you-name-it from recently tried-on merchandise. They're also good for wiping baby's tushy, of course.

@Angela - It is AMAZING. It's really thick and sticky, but it works so well.

@Hannah - I love that baby smell, too. The baby oil provides that lovely aroma, but I do use baby lotion sometimes! That's a brilliant idea your boyfriend has for his head. I'll have to pass that along to some of my guy friends.

@Alice - Ha! Baby oil would definitely do the trick for a slip n slide! But it seriously makes the skin soooooooo smooth and soft.

@Colleen - Oooooh, I'll have to try that! I always seem to attract stains on my clothes.

sadly, I have never done baby oil but I heard it's pretty amazing so I want to try some! I just never remember when I'm at the actual store. And baby wipes... oh you don't even know. I use them ALL the time, mainly as a form of snobby toilet paper, they just feel so much cleaner!! I also like drinking out of a bottle which I never do but secretly want to. My girlfriend and I had baby stuff for a themed party we went to and at the time we were living together, I kept filling up the baby bottle long after to use for water and my roommate would always say "hell no are you drinking out of a bottle" and dump it, it was funny but I realize sounds quite ghetto strictly via text!

I love baby bath and have used it as face wash for years too. It costs about $3 bucks and will literally remove eye makeup and leave your skin perfectly clean without drying it out. The best part is that it is PH balanced and won't irritate even the most sensitive skin. I don't see why you would use anything else. I use baby wipes to clean up messes in my car, to clean hard surfaces in my house and to wipe off my son after he eats. Baby products are my best kept beauty secret. People always tell me I have the most beautiful skin and it makes me laugh because I hardly spend a dime on making it look that way.
