Portland, Pets and Potter

Last weekend we headed down to Portlandia for a couple days of fun in the sun. And food. Saturday morning began with beers. Day drinking, FTW!

After a couple beers, we took the Max across town to the Goose Hollow Inn, home of the "World's Best Reuben". Hoo boy, they're not kidding. This sandwich was to die for. So much so that I forgot to take a picture. We sat in the sun on the patio, scarfing down our Reubens and freaking out when Pippa Middleton sat right next to us. I swear it was her. But again, too busy stuffing my face to get a picture.

The rest of the day was spent frolicking in the sun, consuming plenty more beer, and of course, noshing.

Sunday included, surprise, surprise, more food. We ate brunch at a FABULOUS bakery/cafe, Petit Provence. The food, coffee and pastries were all incredible. Including my Eggs Benedict served on a croissant, with a side of potatoes and butternut squash.

After brunch we headed toward the lion's den, aka Jeld-Wen Field, proudly donning our Sounders gear, for the Sounders/Timbers match. We got heckled, we got yelled at, we had crazed Timbers fans screaming that we smelled like fish. It was awesome. Especially since we won.

My college roommate and her husband joined us for the match. Even though they're Timbers fans, we managed not to throw any punches.

This weekend will be much quieter, as I'm house/dog sitting for a friend. It's just as well, though, since last weekend wore me out! I'm staying at their house, which is just up the road, and indulging in cable TV and bubble baths as much as possible.

Last but not least, tonight brings the end of an era. The Scientist and I are going to see the final installment of Harry Potter. I have completely mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I can't WAIT to see it. I loved the ending of the book, the trailers I've seen are OMG AMAZING, and those who saw midnight showings last night said it was mind blowing. But on the other hand, I have an overwhelming sense of sadness that it's all coming to an end. The Scientist and I have been watching all the previous movies as we've been leading up to the finale, and each movie brings with it more tears. I'm going to be a disaster tonight. I've loved this series since the beginning. I've seen the movies multiple times and could read the books over and over. I think the story of Harry Potter will go down in history as one of the greatest ever told.

What's everyone up to this weekend? Are you a Harry Potter fan?

Looks like you had lots of fun! I'm not a HP fan (Twilight is more my thing ;) lol), but my brother is driving 13 hours to visit his gf JUST so they can go to the HP movie, because she won't be back until August....le sigh. He's crazy.

Oh my god, is the Scientist wearing a Narwahl shirt? That's kinda really awesome!

And I think I was the only person I know who didn't go to HP last night ... and I'm a little sad about it.

I'm excited for a little farmer's market and shopping for the weekend. And I saw HP. After watching all the movies since I got back on Tuesday, I'm ready for a break.

Don't forget, Pottermore is coming online to keep the spirit alive.

Glad you had fun in Portlandia...I love it there! I wont be doing any HP watching (don't hate...just never got into the craze), but I'm hoping for some fun in the sunshine. Have a great weekend.

@Hannah - He's not as cute as he looks. He's a troublemaker! ;-) Enjoy the movie when you see it. I bawled my eyes out the entire time.

@PrettyLittleReckless - I don't think I'd go that far! I loved the books and the movies, but I woudln't say I'm crazy obsessed.

@Caro - Interesting! What don't you like about the movies? I definitely think there is something so special about the books, but I really enjoyed the movies.

@Joanna - Yes! His sister made it. It says "I Narwhal You". He wears it at least once a week. Go see the movie immediately! It was so, so good!

@E - Don't get rained on. This weather! Blech. We've been watching the movies this past week. Im' basically emotionally exhausted now :-) And I love Pottermore...such a fun idea.

@Betty - Thank you! We did have a great time. It's a great city isn't it? Did you ever read any of the HP books? They really are wonderful. JK Rowling writes very much like Roald Dahl, my favorite author. I was hooked from the start because of that :-)

We ALMOST saw it last night too. I can't wait any longer!

Glad Portland was a blast. Okay, I'm trying to figure out that t-shirt in the boys photo. I "narwhal" you? I "whale" you? I don't get it...

That food looks amazing! I had a quick night in Portland a few weeks ago, but I'm itching to go back and explore more during the day.
