The Blahs

I'm currently sitting at my desk, next to an open window that looks out to bright sunshine, blue skies, and green trees. The birds are chirping and the temperature is in the low 70s. All in all a perfect summer day. If this were a normal summer, I'd be floating the day away at the beach, pounding the pavement in my running shoes, or on a long bike ride. But this hasn't been a normal summer, by any means (anyone in Seattle can attest to that).

The weather has been so weird, even now. It's usually in the upper 80s this time of year, not the low 70s. I'm attending school full time this summer. I fucked up my ankle. All of which have put a major damper on summer plans and I've found myself feeling incredibly...blah.

Some of the leaves are already starting to turn and I find myself longing for the warm autumn days and crisp nights, going for long walks with a latte in hand. I'm browsing websites for sweaters and coats, instead of sandals and sundresses.

Basically what I'm saying is that I'm done with summer. I just want it to be done and I want to move on.

School ends next week and I don't go back until the 28th of September. In a week and a half The Scientist and I are leaving for a week to head back East. We're going to New York then driving up to Maine for his sister's wedding. I'm hoping to come back from that trip a bit more rejuvenated than I have been lately so I can enjoy the last few weeks of summer. But for now, I'm going to wallow in the blahs.

How are you feeling this summer?

  2. I hear ya! My summer has been pretty blah too. Last summer was insane and I was busy literally every wknd. Not so much this year. I start school next week though and am pumped to add more things to my planner! :) I hope you have a great trip out east!

  4. This summer has been great, obviously, but the problem with working in the summer is that it never truly FEELS like summer. Not like it did when we were kids anyway. This summer has been so busy with the wedding and business travel that I've hardly had time to relax, except for my honeymoon. So I suppose I'm also feeling a bit blah, like I need my summer to be another month long. Luckily, weather stays pretty nice here until October, so I'm more in the middle of summer than at the end...

  5. Poor Stevie! Some days I'm the happiest, most in love with everything person, other days I'm so cranky and annoyed by everything. Pregnancy is fun like that :)

  7. I've had enough down time that I've been able to really enjoy the sun we've had, but it has been really weird. Also, I haven't made any money, which is hard.

  8. I have had a pretty crappy summer myself...all bad news, no vacations and a cranky husband from all of his commuting.

Here's hoping the time off will lift your spirits!

  9. Ugh, I've had the blahs too. I agree 100% that this is not summer weather. When you come back from the East Coast, we will go drink away our blahs at the wineries :)

  10. I have the blahs about summer ending just because I am SO not ready to jump back into the stress of the semester. I just started a new graduate program, and I would like a couple more weeks to myself!

However, I AM SO DONE with this heat. I'm dying.

  12. um, it's been the same down here my friend!!! I dont' know what the hell is going on with the Pacific NW but it sucks. I don't want raging hot all the time but I expect Summer to be summer and it has been a pathetic and poor showing, it has really been annoying. So, like you, I'm ready to head into fall since Summer doesn't seem to be getting better.. we usually hit 90-100 in August and we broke 90 ONCE this entire summer, last weekend! bahhh, so annoying.
