Wedding Advice - Jewelry

Now that our wedding is less than 6 months away (how did THAT happen?!), I'm starting to think more about details rather than just "big picture" kind of stuff. What's been on my mind most lately is jewelry/accessories. I mentioned a while back  that I was planning on wearing a pendant that belonged to my grandmother. I also promised a photo. It is really hard to capture what this piece looks like in person, but here are a few crappy phone photos to give you a general idea.

So, it's a jade pendant but it's really light jade. More like mint green, actually. It's on a gold chain, as you can see, and has a gold rim, and gold detail in the center. The detailing has a slightly Asian look to it, but is also a bit art deco-ish, which is the same era as my engagement ring.

This is where you come in. The advice I need is what do I do for earrings? What do I do for hair accessories? We're not doing colors for the wedding, so I could go in any direction. I do love the mint green and red/coral-ish color combo, but I have no idea what style of earring I should wear. Should I go big and bold? Small, simple, studs? This is generally how I want to do my hair:

But I want to somehow coordinate the necklace, earrings, and hair accessories. They don't have to be super matchy matchy of course, but I do want to, you know, look somewhat decent on my wedding day.

Any and all suggestions are welcome! It would also be super helpful if you could leave links in the comments if you have favorite sites for accessories. Oh, and I should mention that I'm cheap and stingy, so don't be sending me any links to Kate Spade bullshit that's so stinking beautiful but I can in no way afford, thanks. I'm terrible at accessorizing so I NEED YOUR HELP, PEOPLE. Thank you thank you thank you!

  1. Maybe jade studs would be really pretty to balance the necklace, which is really beautiful? If you want to wear red, then garnet studs may be nice as well.

  2. I would lean towards simple studs if you want the focus to be on the necklace and hair. Btw, what a beautiful necklace!!

  3. I concur with the small studs. You don't want to distract from the beauty of the necklace and you. I bet etsy has some cool stuff. Sorry I don't have links!

  4. Agreed with all of the above - small, simple studs because the necklace is such a statement piece. Are you wearing a veil? (For some reason I keep thinking a birdcage veil - is that right?) If so, you could get a few pins to just put in your hair with a little sparkle on them. You could totally get those somewhere cheap too, like Claire's (cheap-y accessory store, not sure if you have them in Seattle).

Can't believe the wedding's only 6 months away - how exciting!!!

  5. Have to agree with the simple studs concept everyone's talking about, even a little dangly earring would take away from the necklace. I'd prefer a little sparkly (diamonds, cz, whatever).

It's hard to believe it's coming up so fast, I just got the email reminding me there's 7 months away and almost had a panic attack. ;-)

  6. I love the idea of gold on your ears to pick up on the metal on the necklace. Maybe a simple drop earring. But the earrings I think will really depend on how you wear your hair.

  7. I agree with E. Go with a drop earring that is between a stud and big and bold. I definitely think gold for all pieces same era/style.

  8. hoooooly etsy wormhole. that was fun. here are some earrings i came across during my accidental work break that seem to match your jade color, and aren't too overstated/focus stealing (although i do love a bit of a dangle in my earring, as you can see!):

  9. I have no suggestions for you as I'm horrible with things like this, but just wanted to pipe up to say that the necklace is gorgeous :) how unique and fun that it was your grandma's!

  10. I like the idea of a simple earring. I did a simple drop pearl for my earrings. Sooo exciting the wedding date it getting closer!

  11. What a gorgeous necklace--until you said Asian, I was actually getting a Celtic vibe off it! I think simple earrings with the dramatic necklace and hair will be perfect. So beautiful!

  12. If theres something in your hair, skip the earrings. Otherwise, tiny gold ones.
