Wine Wednesday - Get Loony!
I just realized I've totally slacked on my Wine Wednesday posts. Like, haven't done one since before the holidays, slacked. But don't fret. I'm bringing Wine Wednesday back, just in time for Valentine's Day! Wait. Crap. Never mind.
Anyway, this week's Wine Wednesday is brought to you by Smoking Loon. Actually, it's brought to you by me who is giving Smoking Loon free publicity*.
The first time I had a Smoking Loon wine was way back in 2005. I was living on my own in my fabulous city apartment, a la Carrie Bradshaw (don't even get me started on how much I miss that apartment) and was feeling like my 25 year old self should develop a more sophisticated palate than the two buck chuck I was used to drinking.
At that point in time, bottles were around $6-7. These days they run closer to $8 or 9, but well worth the price (there are also some higher priced varietals and vintages available if you want to splurge). I've had most of the standard varietals - Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, etc. - and they're all delicious. My favorite is probably the Chardonnay. It's slightly oaky, but not overpowering. These wines are perfect for drinking a glass at the end of a long day, or serving with a full meal.
Smoking Loon wines are a division of Don Sebastiani & Sons, who also make some other wines you may be familiar with. Pepperwood Grove wines are on the lower end of the price range (even lower than Smoking Loon) and The Crusher wines are fantastic, but still reasonably priced (if I remember correctly, they're around $10/bottle).
In my area, I can find Smoking Loon and other Don & Sons wines at my local grocery store, Target, and World Market so I'm assuming they're distributed similarly across the country. So what are you waiting for? Get loony!
*These opinions are all my own. I'm not being paid to discuss these wines, nor is anyone giving me free wine to review...but I'm certainly not against it!
